5spd tranny problems
i have a 5spd - '83 Datsun 280ZX. in the mornings when it's cold, the bitch won't go into gear. no matter how far i press in the clutch. 1st is a "not gonna happen" it feels like there is a wall & the notch to go into gear doesn't exist. but if i literally force like 30,000lbs of arm strength into the stick, it'll shove into 2nd & i can take off; but going into 3rd, 4th & 5th i gotta force maybe 20lbs of strength. reverse is a problem, i shift into 1st to sync the gears & try reverse but it just merely grinds, even after a few attempts of a forward gear the reverse won't synchronize.
all this when it's cold, but after 10min of driving & it's warm everything is normal; 1st gear & reverse & the notchy shifting feel of going into every gear is back to normal. & now w/ 95degree afternoons, the tranny is not a problem at all, just the 70degree mornings
what's wrong? is it the synchros going bad?

try changing the oil ....or let it warm up a little....
maybe your synchroes are damaged a little too....
i know my reverse one is i hafta shift into 5th and then reverse so it doesnt grind.....
my input....wait for others

70 degrees is a cold morning? **** -32 is a cold morning. With such a small temperature change between 70 and 95 I don't think the morning temp is what is affecting the car. Mine does just fine in the 40's and 50's. Can moisture affect the synchroes? Dew maybe?
