Well, if that is your goal, and money is no object... I suggest going this route...

Otherwise, I don't think You're going to see those kinds of numbers.

Good Luck,

Rod.

Nah put a v-12 in that Z, it should hit those kind of speeds. That is if one: you can find a v-12 around here, two: it doesn't cost you arms and legs. And three: If you can fit the friggin' thing in there. And if you get that far, how to keep the car on the ground.

All in all man, just curious, why do you want to have a car that goes that fast? Or maybe you are just curious to kill some time. If that is the case, hey people can dream. Sorry just had to have some fun, don't want to offend anybody.

with that body on there? most unlikly...even if you have the power, aerodynamics would give out way before that, let alone everything else..

He wasn't talking about Horsepower, he specifically meant 350-400 KPH or Kilometers Per Hour!!!!

Well, math lesson time...

A Kilometer is .60 Miles.

Therefore, 100 KPH = 60 MPH

Err go... 400 KPH = 240MPH !!!!

TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY MILES PER HOUR IS HIS GOAL!!!!

Holy Schnikey Batman!!!!

My idea is the only way that's gonna happen... I didn't say anything about doing it ON THE GROUND

uuuuuuuuhhhhhhhh lets see 240mph, I don't think I woul want to atempt that in a car so old no matter how little rust it has, especially a japanes car. it was turn from a zcar to a comekosy golf cart. I say close your eyes and click your hills, cause anything is posible.

here's the easy way to do it without performing a single mod to your car: Since the Russian space program seems to be pretty much down with trying anything for enough money you need to hit them up and have em strap your Z to the belly of the next space shuttle they send up. Now just as the shuttle makes re-entry into the atmosphere they release the car. Based on my calculation the car should hit 400kph no problem before it hits the surface.

What about funding you ask??? Just dig up the first backstreet boy you can find and have him finance the operation with the promise that he can be in the drivers seat of the Z through the whole process thus enabling him to pioneer automotive flight from space. This way not only will you have the bragging right of saying you HAD a 400kph+ Z, but you also have the bragging right of saying you got to kill a backstreet boy. Double whammy in my book

I rode in an FD that does 197MPH through light traffic around the Dallas loop (I wasn't in it while it was doing the 198 though!!) Of course, thats not quite 240MPH, and definetly has a 'lil better aerodynamics and suspension than the Z.

Do you want to actually beable to "do stuff" at those speeds? Or are you talking about going in a straight line?

If you don't want to turn... it might be a realistic project for someone with a realistic budget.

There's a guy on hybridz with a V12 in his Z. Its an S30 though. It looked like a fairly easy fit to me.

with enough power, gearing and lack of drag combined with the ability to keep the car planted and considering you have in enough distance to accomplish said goal it's definitely possible.

We're talking a purpose built salt-flat racer that somewhat resembles a Z.

Fastest most realistic way to realiably hit ~350hp would be to swap in an rb26 backed by the GTS transmission, or the Z32 transmission. The rb will make that power all day long without strain. I'm hoping my Z will hit close to 310hp with the L28. I'm waiting on my ecu to arrive back in the mail. We'll see what it puts down on the dyno after that.

350hp is doable all day long in an L28 turbo and it won't even cost you an arm and a leg. Just the leg...

With about 500 hp from a slightly used nextel cup motor, a Lenco, and a few mile of salt, its doable. If a Kiwi can do 200mph in a 1920 Indian, then we must be able to find a way to do 240 in a 79-83 car. For God's sake, put a cage/seat/belts in the car. Hey, if you can keep the starter engaged during the run, that should be good for another 2-3mph

I don't believe it. I can't even get a stock turbo engine to put out 180hp!

He would have to rake the windshield back more or be running 1300hp.......whichever is easier.
