Re: Suspention

I've only got the front struts right now, so I can't send you a comparison picture... :-(

Anyone have a recomendation on good springs for a 280ZX? I want to lower the car 1 inch rear, maybe 1.5 inches front and have a stiffer spring weight. One person has said they were not happy with Motorsport Auto's "25% stiffer" lowering springs... but they did not say why. Anyone else have any opinions?
I'll also be installing new struts. If anything, I'd like the rear a lot more stiff to get rid of that rear end squat! The front can be about the same as now or maybe a little more stiff.
Also, is there actually a difference on the rear springs from a coupe and a 2+2? I've got a 1982 2+2 n/a...

Re: Suspention

Front struts are smaller than the rear. That's how I could tell. I don't have pics of the Tokikos lying in my garage right now, but yeah, that's the difference. For springs, I've heard either Eibachs or Tokikos are the way to go. Both lower ~1". If you go lower than 2" beware the super harsh ride characteristics and camber problems associated with it.

Re: Suspention

Hey Skully, for your suspension, did you get two that have perches and are larger? And then two that are "poles"? Wondering because I have two that are perches and are for the rear. The "pole" kind are for the front I think. I dunno, I'll look closer this weekend.

Re: Suspention

yeah thats what i got and the poles are heavier right??
but on there says poles are for back and other ones are for front......but they look like they switched them......cuz the front ones slide into a pocket by the wheel right and rear ones screw in!

Re: Suspention

Skully,
I check out the suspension man. Well, from the looks of the poles are for the rear, but you'll have to cut and weld the perch and the little o-ring thingy to the Tokiko. The big ones with the perch already there are for the front like you thought. This sucks... I hate welding.

Re: Suspention

ahhhhhh i figured it all out............
the ones salesman said are for the front are actualy the rear ones..........and the ones thats just a pole slides into a thingy for the front ones................... looked in Victoria British catalogue and saw the pictures........only one thing is that front ones are heavier then back ones............
but i guess theyr more stiffer cuz of the wight up front...

heyyyy, you dont have to weld anything. the big ones are for the rear, the springs sit directly on them. on the front : poles slide into the strut tube which is connected to the spindle you have to take that whole assembly off. you drop it out then take off a nut and the old strut will slide out. i hope you didn't cut nothin up yet.

YOU NEED A REPAIR BOOK. good luck!!!!!
