Suspension Rebuild Q's

Ok after noting how much work needs done on my 280ZX Im first going for replacing then upgrading later

Are Monroe Sensa Trac's ok for Z cars?
And Should I use McQuay-Norris parts or Moog?
I'm already going to use urethane bushings everywhere I can so thats taken care of.

I'm going to get that ball and socket compression rods for the front end so thats not a worry tho ive seen better ones somewhere and Im not sure what to get.

Thats pretty much it for now

Unless you mean "five years from now" later... why bother replacing them twice?

They're about as cheap as they get. KYB's and Tokico's FTW.

For which specific parts? Ball joints? Tie rod ends? Both companies are good... Moog has a better rep IMO.

That pretty much what I was thinking so I may go a step up and get KYB's

Ah and I pretty much meant EVERYTHING @.@ Its all damaged... I think I'll go with McQuay-Norris this time

if you got springs and arent bottoming out the suspension like crazy you are damaging nothing. also, kyb GR-2's are a bit stiffer than stock and pretty affordable, i'd replace teh springs while in there and freshening up, i have a write-up on here.

BlueKitsune 03-16-2009 09:56 PM

Hmm That what I was going to do with, and no my springs are ok... I think Im not bottoming out. Mind posting a link to your write up in here?

snwbrderphat540 03-16-2009 10:06 PM

sigh... why do we have a how to section? lol. i'd tel you to search, but its just so damn easy to find i don't even care. it was done for an S30 but its pretty much exactly the same.

there you are!!!!

BlueKitsune 03-16-2009 10:13 PM

Hey I just got off work lol (ya I know, no excuse lol) O/T Someone at my work put a waxing agent in the floor machine so it instead cleaning up the dirt, covered it and sealed it to the floor Nice huh? Guess who got to scrape the entire store floor?.

ANYWAYS Thanks snw. ANd you know. my 2+2 has kinda grown on me, I want a fast 280ZX but I didnt want to have back seats, tho my 2+2 was the very first Z Ive ever owned myself and bought myself! ($400 drove it home from the scrap yard! Yes I fixed it in the mud pretty much lol)

My car is starting to get a thud in the rear end when shifting now... YAY More crap to replace! Diff-mount going out Im POSITIVE on that one

Go solid diff mount! I've been putting one together. Mebbe I'll post pics tonight.

BlueKitsune 03-17-2009 10:19 AM

Wouldn't that be really loud? Pics would be nice to see too!

snwbrderphat540 03-17-2009 11:17 AM

meh. like the RT mount nismo? but im guessing only for an S130, or do they share that in common? i can;t recall.

NismoPick 03-17-2009 11:33 AM

Same idea, but the RT mount is quite a contraption. The S130 mount is just a U. I have removed the rubber insulation & will be welding a plate on top & bottom.

SHADY280 03-17-2009 02:22 PM

i did that upgrade 3 years ago, it really made a difference in how solid the rear xmember was, i left the xmemeber bushings in too tho, didnt feel it needed those to be solid on a street car. no real xtra noise was noticed.

snwbrderphat540 03-17-2009 05:39 PM

i want a daily driven S30 with all solid mounts and bushings. lol, that sure would be fun :D

BlueKitsune 03-17-2009 10:14 PM

I just want an S30! lol

Here's a pic of the S130 diff mount w/ a half finished plate that will be welded on the top. I'll probably weld in some support on the bottom too.

BlueKitsune 03-18-2009 08:36 PM

Thats interesting. I take it you have a bunch of metal working tools?

Oh a side note, Im now saving up to finish my garage and get an air compressor, solvent tank and sandblasting cabinet, shop crane, and other tools I might need then I'll put my 280ZX 2+2 in there and get to work on it. Finding bondo on your car is never fun...
I'll order parts then starting with suspension/steering then work my way from there May aswell change out my clutch sense I have a new one ready to be put in as well.

This is going to be fun/nightmare! But will be SOOOO worth it in the end

Philbert 03-25-2009 02:09 PM

let us know what you end up going with for your set up and how it feels.

I have a 2+2 and it seems all the shock/Spring packages out there only are meant for the coupes....and not compatible with the 4 seaters.

Help us all out with lots of photos and a write up of the install :)

olskool 03-26-2009 09:07 AM

is there a diffrence in the two suspensions

A few. :D

Between the 2seater & 2+2? The only difference is the rear spring rating. I believe the 2+2 has a higher spring rating due to more weight, yet you can only buy springs rated for the 2seater. :paranoid:

BlueKitsune 03-26-2009 09:41 AM

And the years make a diff too I think lest on the rear

snwbrderphat540 03-26-2009 10:00 AM

they sell bolt in coilovers for your guys cars though i think with optional spring rates, so quit being cheap and get to it! lol.

olskool 03-26-2009 11:23 AM

cool coil overs will work that was actually my thought when i read that im not being cheap just ahvent got to the suspension yet (well yeah i am being cheap but thats another story ) well that solves that problem then not thaty i had planned on lowering it but making it stiffer yes

snwbrderphat540 03-26-2009 11:40 AM

here yah go you goober

http://www.modern-motorsports.com/ca...products_id=66

buy buy buy!

260zturbo 03-26-2009 03:03 PM

the rt mount just replaces the strap on top of the diff. allows the diff to be held from the top or sandwiched so you wont have your diff slapping. such a simple but great invention

snwbrderphat540 03-26-2009 03:53 PM

i know what it is, i thought thats what he was referring to, i got flip flopped yo!
