That trim is a PITA isn't it? You can either rough it up and prime it with etching primer then paint it... or go ghetto and use wide electrical tape (which works surprisingly well and looks pretty damn good if you can work with an Xacto knife! ).

well, I've actually seen blackout tape made to attach to chrome trim on cars. It was wide enough for the pillars. Found it in a good auto parts store.
