Are you able to put the screw through the mirror, holding the screw in place with the screwdriver...if so hold the mirror in one hand, use the tip of the screwdriver and a finger to hold the screw in the mirror hole and put it up to the mount...feel around with the tip of the screw till you hit the hole and ram her home.

nah not the holes for the mount to the roof, the hole in the back of the mirror that makes it hold the angle, without it the mirror just hangs limp.

Hopefully you have the mirror out of the car right? It sounds like the part you put the screw through is too far away from the threaded part it attaches too. Can you lightly push them together w/ one hand & tighten w/ the other?

Maybe post a pic of the problem...

yea i took it out of the car to paint it black since it was all faded and cracking, im gonna see if maybe i have to push the mirror face in because it does seem like the screw isn't reaching the thread, but the screw falls all the way into the hole till the head hits so i don't know. Ill try to post a pic when i find my camera. Thanks guys

Ah yes... the hole has to be visible. Does that inner metal piece move around (like if you grab the tab)?
