I am about to buy a 1983 280Zx. I was looking at it and saw some slideing switches of some kind. they are located rear of the center consale. no clue what they are. they look factory, but there not. they slide up and down. any clue?

It's a 2+2 isn't it? I have seen those before and wondered what they were myself.

i think it might be a 2+2, it's in a salvage yard. body is great, so is paint job. motor runs. interior needs some work. and a driver door hinge. I am buying it as a build up. and it's my first restore projet. and at $325 for this car. i think i found a good deal. just what the heck are those switches. no clue here

The car is prety much stock. Non turbo, Non T-Top. 3 Speed Auto. some one has atempted to put a back seat in it. I think the Switches might have something to to with it. Still has it's Factory rims. Dark blue paint. Some one snatched one of the driver door hinges. it drop's down when opend. Engine could use new belts, and a clean up. has new spark plugs, and wires. needs new rubber all around. no cracks in any glass. very little rust. nothing major. good for starter restore.

If it is a 2+2 model then it came with a back seat originally. Those 2+2's had larger rear wing windows that would pop open by cable controls. The switches at the back of the center console move those cables to open the rear side windows.
If the car is really a 2-seater, then someone put a 2+2 center console in that car.

thanks Bleach, i have been searching every where for that exact answer. the back seat looks half azz, and so small. like some one tryed to make it a 2+2. If thats the case, then it will def half to go back to stock.

Any pictures of the back seat or the outside of the car (from the side) will enable us to tell you if it is a factory 2 or 4 seat car.

I have been looking at pics of 2+2's. and it does not look nothing like it. nor the switches look like those in a 2+2. This car i am about to buy loks like someone took the two handles out, and put a small bench seat on top of where the handels used to be.the seat does not sink down, and sits much higher then front seats. and rear side windows are small. not like the larger windows on a 2+2

Maybe they had a 2seater and the wife made him put in seats for the kiddies. My wife tried to get me to do that. I told her it wouldn't be safe, so she told me weld in a bracket for a car seat otherwise I would have to sell the car for something more family oriented. Then I finally let her drive it. She came back with a smile and said I could keep it but she was getting a new car too. I bought her a Saturn for $2000 Hasn't complainde since.
