I wonder if that's real or a good conversion. Maybe he drilled some holes and stuck a big bolt through the door. That could have fallen apart a month after he did it. The pics are blurry... the door could be hanging from a rope for all we know. You can't see the top of it in the pic.

I've never seen that done on a show car at any of the Z shows.

I don't know why anyone would do this type of "bolt on" conversion.

The "Top Quality" kits open a few inches like normal and then you have to reach down the bottom of the door and lift it up. You need to do this carefully and watch the door shudder when its fully raised.

This is a fragile system and on an episode of Pimp My Ride...the bolt BROKE upon installation and needed to be reinforced!

Fine for a show car, but seems scary for a daily driver... mg:

280ZX doors are fairly big and heavy. You might want to use fiberglass doors.
oh, and you'll have to roll your windows down a little each time you open and close the doors.

hmmm

all i know is that i found it on a late night going through car domain. Ive known about it for about a year now. And he hasnt posted anything since he put it up. All i know about those doors is that its a type of scissor effect with the door and you have to shave down the front fender to get the door to open. At least thats how i saw the install instructions on a civic. And yes our door are freaking heavy had to take one off for my nephew.grrrrr

Try this site Auto Loc website I have personally seen these kits work. They are a litle pricey but you get quality for what you pay.
