Those lights are way too big for the back panel.... which looks like it's 2 inches thick with bondo.

I know some people just want a different look, but I love the 280zx tail lights, especially the 79-81 simple style.
Yeah he's on hybridZ. He's got quite a turbo motor in that car. As for the construction of the panel, he only used steel - not 1 ounce of bondo on there.

I like the round taillight look much better than the mustang ones also, thought those "alteeza" lights i just posted wouldn't look bad IMO.

Yeah i like S30 tailight much, much better than our s130 lights.

As for the "alteeza" lights for the mustang, look on ebay, i just pulled the pic from some auction.

Where's THXONE? he should photochop those onto a ZX to see how they look.

I share that same sentiment. The 79-81 ZX taillights are perfect for the car. I wouldn't want to change those out for anything else. The 82-83 taillights on the other hand I dont find so attractive I do like the idea of raising the rear panel and frenching in the license plate and removing that bulky rear license plate light peice.

Does Any One Have The Tail Light Panel That Goes Over That Ugly Area Installed On Thier Car? If You Change The Tail Lights You Have To Do Something With That Area To Even It Out.

Well I guess since nobody else is putting round tail lights on their Z I'll just go that route

I guess thats a popular choice

I also agree with the '79-'81 taillights. That is the main reason, I switched them out for my stock ones. The stock lights are too bulky on the '82-'83 models, takes away the smoothness. And the '79-'81 lights have a more nostalgic look to them.

ok i own a custom car speed shop where we do allot of fiberglassing to interior and exterior panels we do these round taillight conversions quite a bit im currently going to do this to my 280 but im not going to use any Expencive Cobalt or corvette lights WAAAY to Much Money! and corvette tails are not round so it throws the small datsun *** way off what you need is simple 5-6in round Semi LED lights sold at most truck stops what you want to find is somthing nice with over 30 LEDS so they are super bright you can buy White with red LEDs or red with Red LEDs or Amber they cost around 30$ a pop for some high end ones here is a pic of some i made for my 1994 ford escort let me know what you think the lights i pulled off a old semi trailer they look a lil pink but look on Ebay for a set that looks real nice!

No offence, but the lights on that asscort look like a very amatuer attempt at body work. It looks like you just painted over the stock tailight and then drilled a hole in the light itself and put the LED light in there just like that. I see that kind of half-*** custom work all the time on riced out civics and jettas and i'm not a big fan of it. Please do it correctly on your Z and make a new taillight panel for the new lights.

i definatly thnk he just masked off the stock tail lights and cut out a design... a little too simple. i doubt you could do it to any s30 s130 with as successful results because of the tail light lay out. plus... thats kinda cheesy i think.

what they hell are we discussing this for... its tail lights lol. take all this inginuity of designing tail lights and turn your car to DOHC or soemthing. lol. damn!
