I just picked up a used stereo that has a face plate in excellent shape. It is for the digital package since the lettering is green. The weird thing is that the face plate is white and not the aluminum finish that I am accustomed to seeing in EVERY ZX I seen before. I was wondering if this was this face plate for a special edition ZX? Is it aftermarket? It has KOITO - Japan & a part no. in the back... thanks in advance...

 

I've never seen a white one before, but that looks completely stock otherwise. At first I thought the sun might have faded it out, but the lettering would've faded also, so not the case. My guess is that someone repainted it, including the lettering, or it just might very well have come in stock white. Interesting, now you have me curious.

 

I must be trippin cuz it looks gray to me....

This came from Canada... Maybe they came this way there? I will try taking photos outside maybe they will show that it is white... Only way to it to look this good is they took off the green lettering & painted it....but the more I see it the more I think it is an aftermarket part. It doesn't say nissan or datsun on it, Just KOITO so I googled it. http://www.koito.co.jp/english/f_index.html & it looks like they could have produced this when 280zx were being made....

That looks like the usual metallic finish... PS. What can I say, I am a lousy photographer... I'll try taking better photos this weekend...

 

My '83 digital ZX has the silver faceplate. Never seen it in white, but it is interesting...

 

Last pic, check the upper right corner. Looks like someone stripped the silver metalic finish off. Probably started to wear out and they just made it all one color.

OK, I Still think this is an aftermarket part... There is no Nissan/Datsun part no. Just a Koito name & a part no. Any more ideas?

 

HEY! I was out in my yard getting the last few thing removed from my turbo parts car (hoping to get the frame hauled off soon) and I noticed that the factory radio has that 'white' faceplate like yours!

So maybe it was a 1983 turbo only feature??? this car is 1983 turbo, 5-speed, 2-seater, t-tops, red inside, maroon/redish outside, with all power options and that stupid auto temp control thing... heated mirrors, headlight washers... the works

 

Well, I guess maybe Turbo's with the digital/ leather package might have been white? Could your parts been car sold in Canada? You are near... I am going to look at my sales brouchure & see if it is there. Thanks for the info, Bleach!!

Mine is on eBay too... I'm not sure if my turbo parts car is from Canada. I got it with a WA title but that doesn't say much. oh, and yes it also had digital dash. I forgot to mention that. hmmm...
