Are Dash Covers Any Good?

im using one of those dash caps on my car too.. its actually not that bad... from first glance you wouldnt know it was a cap.. but it did take a lil work to get it to fit on right... i had to trim off some of the origional dash to get it to fit tight.. but it came out looking really good.. its a simple solution till you do find a replacemnt dash..

my first 280zx had a plastic cover like the one you are describing and the only problem that i had with it was where the stock dash was cracked, i never properly prepared it for the cap. if you just stick a cover over severe cracks w/o prep eventually the cover will crack too, especicaly if you live in a hot climate. reason being where the dash is cracked the foam will expand and the crack will grow upward right through your cap. take a razor blade and carefully cut about 1/2 inch to the sides of the crack, then fill it with r.t.v. (silicone sealant). let this cure and you are ready for your "new dash". good luck
