I'm trying to get my car prepped for painting but I don't know how to pull off the chrome trim. I Also don't know how to take off the mirrors and door handles. Plus that trim that's on top of the door.

What to do

 

With the exception of the chrome trim, it all comes off pretty simply.

First, remove the arm rest and the plastic trim on the inside door latch.

Then, carefully pop the plastic rivits off by gently prying up on the edges of the inside trim panel. A wide thin screw driver or other similar tool can be very helpful. Try not to pull the plastic rivets out of the fiber board door panel backing. You need to protect these as there aren't any more out there. You also need to do this gently so you don't damage the slots that these rivets slide into.

Once you've worked your way all the way around the door panel, you want to slide it up to free the top trim and then it'll slide out and back (to clear the inside door latch).

With the windows rolled up, now you have access to the screws that hold the side mirrors to the door. With the window down and the inside felt off, you should be able to gently pry the window strip off the outside of the door panel.

I could be mistaken, but I think those chrome side mouldings were pop riveted on. With the inside door panels off, you should be able to see if there are any mounting holes for them on the inside of the door.

Taking the outside door handle off is easy enough. It's getting that thing back in that a PITA. I broke the piece that attaches to the lock and so now I cant lock or unlock my car from outside on the driver side.

If the trim you're talking about is the rocker trim, then it SHOULD be riveted into place. I say should because one of mine had been removed by the previous owner and screwed back on instead. Of course they're both sitting in a land fill somewhere now. With rivets, just drill out the center and the trim should pop right off.
