What is that in the float bowl?

I was rebuilding my carburetor, and I took the top off of the float bowl, and found a bunch of white crap in the bottom of it, and it looked like it was possibly restricting fuel flow. Anyone have any idea what that is?

I took a picture of two float bowls, to contrast the difference between the two. The one with the white stuff in it is from my current carburetors, and the one without is from a crappy set of carbs I found buried in the shed.

Could be some residue from fuel additives or sediment from bad gas. Aluminum will react to acids.
