ok so im going to try to get my z running before i let her go. the last thing done to the car was the vaccume hoses and i think my uncle messed it up so if anyone could post a diagram for the vaccume hoses i'll go and re-do them myself and hopefully get her going again
it's not working

LOL!!!! yeah its a canaanananadian website. so ca
from what i've read i just have a plugged up muffler. well then i just need a welder cause i have the new muffler and a larger pipe to weld the muffler to now i don't have to sell the z!!!so who can help me out or how much do you think it will cost to get my muffler welded together and installed in my car?
The Good Twin
You're saying you think it's the muffler causing the car to run crappy??? I highly doubt that... and instead of paying money to replace the muffler and still not fix the prob, you should prolly disconnect the exhaust at the manifold or cat and test that theory first. If your muffler truly is completely blocking the exhaust, then take it to a muffler shop and have them put a new one on.
my uncle said that i would suck a valve if i did that. and what's the easiest way to test for vaccume hose leaks?

Suck a valve if you did what? Disconnect the exhaust? I THINK YOU NEED TO STOP LISTENING TO YOUR UNCLE.Originally Posted by tonsoffun300zx

Remove them and inspect... you can also spray starter fluid or brake cleaner on them & listen for RPM change.Originally Posted by tonsoffun300zx

i told him that i'd do all the work myself from now on. and spray the starter fluid on the hoses themselves?
nope i don't know how to do that but i've been told to do so. what im thinking is to replace the rest of the hoses, do the exhaust, and sync the carbs, and after that Amanda should be fine

do the exhaust
make sure that is the problem before you waste the time and money. you won't "suck a valve" (WTF???) if you run the car without the muffler.do the exhaust

and sync the carbs
yes, do that.and sync the carbs

no guarantees, there could always be other problems. but you wont know 'till you try the other stuff.and after that Amanda should be fine
ok and i have the pieces to do the exhaust i just need to weld them together and bolt it on.

Like everyone's saying don't worry about the exhaust right now. Just disconnect the cat or muffler, many people will run say turbo cars with no exhaust after the downpipe because they've removed the entire exhaust and are going to go get a new one.
Do your vacuum lines and sync your carbs. Can anyone explain how to do it, I'd explain it, if I knew what I was doing with a carbureted engine, but I've only messed with Fuel Injection. I believe you need to go pick up a carb synchronization tool from the auto parts store and I hear it has some kind of float in it, and you adjust the throttle plate until the float is centered or something along those lines. I may be completely wrong though. Anyone care to back me up?

i went to a mechanic and he said a full diagnostic would cost 120 and he'd sync my carbs but i have no way to get her there and i don't have the money right now

you can make sweet sweet love down by the fire to your piston rings from little to no back pressure, but suck a valve??? i dont even know what that means. but the exhausts break down into setcions, just drop a section after the manifold and test it out, clean all your stuff and do the friggin tune up and get the carbs synched.
NisTuner
You can go to the auto parts store and get a tool to sync your carbs for pretty cheap I'd imagine, heck you might even be able to rent one, which just requires a deposit that you'd get back once you return the tool.
that sounds do-able but i still want to put in the new exhaust. and does anyone know how to weld and is it really that hard?
I have a present for you...
It is all doable if you have the right tools and know how to use them. If you don't, take it to the mechanic. You can start your tool collection with some how to books. The balance tool simply compares air flow on each carb to adjust the linkage. If you remove the air cleaner you will see a piston inside the carb. Lift it with your finger and let it drop. Both of the carbs should move smoothly. Make sure the choke cables are free and don't stick, linkage should move easily. Spray WD-40 on the linkage. Without an exhaust the carbed engine won't run very well at all. You could cut off the muffler and get a clamp on style so you can drive it and get it welded. If this doesn't sound to complicated let me know and I can show you with pics.
can you send the pix please it would be easier for me to see how to do it thanks!

I'll be glad to do that. I have to dig up the pics I have saved on my old computer or just take new ones. SoonOriginally Posted by entropy31
why not just upload the pics to a writeup thread that i can sticky here on the site?
