Re: Top speed of Datsuns
Depends on a lot of factors. With or without aero kit. Outside temp the cooler the faster. Suspension setups to handle the g,s being applied at high speeds. The fastest i ahve personally gone in a 1970 240 with a front airdam 2 inches off the ground running 205/50/15 was 135MPH. I am sure you can go faster and I plan to but like I said conditions mean everything.
Gotta get my Z's

Re: Top speed of Datsuns
Ya, all the Z's up to 1983 are about 130 to 135mph max speed.
The 280ZX turbo is rated at 145 max. The 300ZX twin turbo might have the highest top speed... but that would be for another forum.

Re: Top speed of Datsuns
It realy depends on who's driving, and if you can trust the spedometer in you car or not! Most older vehicles have horribly inacurate speedo's.
My 1972 240Z equiped with a 5speed Trany From A 78' 280
R-200 Rear end with 4.11:1 ratio, and 205-70-r14 tires
has been clocked at 126Mph at 6000Rpm's, but had an indicated speed of 145 reading on the speedo.
dont know if that hepls
just my two-bits

Re: Top speed of Datsuns
Very few Z owners have actually ran their cars through a spped course and have
accurate top speed readings. I would say a stock car can go around 115 plus or minus.
The guys who say their cars go 130 plus without major mods I believe aren't accurate.
Plus going 135 and not knowing what your doing is pure stupidity. A large percentage
of drivers really don't know how to drive at those speeds.

Re: Top speed of Datsuns
I got my old '78 280Z (that I don't have anymore) up to where the speedometer said 147MPH.... I KNOW the speedo was off and I *THINK* it would have been more like 130-135. That was bone stock with 215/60HR14 tires and going DOWNHILL.
On flat ground.. who knows... I wonder what Darius' 240Z w/ the LT1 supercharged can do.. WOW-- 220?!?! lol

Re: Top speed of Datsuns
I've gotten my 1978 280 Z 2+2 (automatic transmission) up to 119mph on relatively flat ground. (It was kind of without realizing it. Just cruising down Highway 71 from Arkansas to Kansas City, where the speed limit was 55--heh, whoops--listening to good music and enjoying the ride.) All parts were original, no extras or anything. Now, I could have been hallucinating, or the spedometer may be inaccurate over a certain speed (I know it for sure works up to 75mph), but that's just my personal fastest, assuming the car is accurate. I'd like to take it out to a course and actually try to speed. : )

Re: Top speed of Datsuns
According to R&T none broke 130mph..
The speedos are not real accurate.. it is a curve anyways.. accurate up to 70 or so..(typical speedlimits) after that, the error increases the faster you go..
ie 5% fast at 100mph 10% at 120mph
those are just examples and are only meant to demonstrate what I mean by the curve increasing as speed increasing..
Law of diminishing returns formula.
