TO4E
I don't know much about the Z cars, but I'm putting a TO4E on my 87 RX-7. While my 7 is in the garage I was looking at tinkering with a turbo Z. I was wondering if you could put a TO4E on a Z? The reason I ask is because one of my buddies just popped his engine and is going with a T66. He willing to give me a nice price on his used turbo. I know I'll have to find a different manifold and stuff, but where is the best place to look for these kind of thing for the earlier Z cars.
Thanks

Re: TO4E
If you're going with a T04 setup for a RX7 then you'll probably have some issues due to the fact that the rotory engines flow a lot more of air in general. The A/R are usually around .90 while on a Z you might want somewhere in the neighborehood of .61 maybe slightly higher. Your Z would see some serious turbo lag. Correct me if I'm wrong.
There aren't any manifolds that will directly bolt up to the T04, but you can always modify your stock exhaust manifold or make up a custom one. A T3/T4 Hybrid is the easiest to fit onto the Z car. You can usually find one that will bolt directly up.
If you bolt a T04 up to your Z please share with some pictures.

Re: TO4E
Yeah, its amazing the amount of air that flows through my little 1.3L engine. The A/R is 1.00 on the one I would be getting, the one I'm putting on my 7 is 1.15.
I haven't acctually purchased a Z yet, but I like the look of the 280 better than the 300s. I have a Haltech E6K for my 7, this helps with the fuel delivery problems and really helps with timing advance ect... What kind of options are there for engine managment in the Z world? I could always go Haltech again, but I'm wondering what you all are using.
Thanks

Re: TO4E
There is a shot of a TO4 on my 240Z in my 'rides' section.
The manifold was custom & the turbo was too big for an auto L24. If it was a manual & you wanted to rev then it might have been ok.
From memory the turbine was 0.68 & the comp was 'N' trim (the smallest anyway). I'm currently running a high-flow VG30ET unit on my L28 MR30 Skyline & that is sweet. It begins to pull @ 2000 & goes all the way to the redline. (boost is electronically controlled by the E6A to ~6psi).
There are is more infor on the MR30 on my web page http://www.versadev.com/ben

Re: TO4E
There are several different options out there that you can go with to put a TO4E on a Z. It depends on the year and model though as to what and where you get the parts at. I would suggest STRICTLYZ first, as they might not yet have the parts you are looking for, I bet they can get them, you'd have to check. As for engine management, there are also several different choices to go with. If you are looking in the HalTech price range, you could go with an HKS PFC system, or I believe PBII makes a stand alone engine set-up for the Z models. Alot of manufacturers out there will actually make the stuff you want, they just don't advertise it.
I would try StrictlyZ , HKS , ZCarparts, and Santa (hey who knows?

Yes I am, but I'm low on funds right now, so I'll mabye hold of until after Christmas. I was thinking, theres a N/A Z over by my house that was thrashed into a light poll some years back, I could fix the body up the way I want it and rebuild the rest of everything while I've got the dash apart for the Haltech wiring.
