Is ther such a thing as a rear drum upgrade?
Re: Is ther such a thing as a rear drum upgrade?
You're on the right site. Go to the articles section. Doesn't go into much detail, but gets you on the right track. Oops, that was for a rear disc conversion. But the front brakes do most of the stopping. Not sure if upgrading drum brakes would be worth it or not, unless you are going to get some nice looking wheels go with the disc conversion.

I have seen drilled Drums before on a Z and also a vent setup to push air to the inside of the housing.
Those are the only items I have seen for the rear drum and they wer both pretty much done in someones garage.

Never heard of an actual upgrade for the drums but I was watching Dream Car Garage last week and they did a short bit on drilling your drums for better cooling and outgassing (something like cross drilling your rotors). They drilled small holes at alternate points. Top, bottom. side, side then split the difference between the holes and drilled 4 more. Drilling was done right where the drum changes from horizontal to vertical. I have no idea if this works and I would be cautious about weakening the drums. Perhaps some of our racing friends can shed some light on this.
