If there was...the car would of still been there =P
Lets hope he dosen't take your engine and just dump the car. Is his insurance going to do anything?

Ya, my switch saved my car.
Like my little Datsun truck that was stolen, I was worried about my custom engine being taken but all they took was my tachometer and tools n' junk out of the interrior. Same thing on that Civic, they will probably not bother with anything large. They'll grab some stereo equipment, maybe the rims, and dump the car if they can. They may not be able to dump the car and take then rims though... your friend will most likely get his engine back. I hope so.
Car theift makes you so mad... I wish it was legal to kill them. Its time this country's laws stopped protecting the criminals!

Insurance probably won't do much but cover BB value. He's invested quite a bit into the car time, effort and money.
Hopefully they just take the easy stuff, crappy stereo and rims. Also another Civic was stolen same night and just down the street from him.

I had a 260 that was stolen about 10 years ago. At the time it was stolen it had a starting problem (and I had no money to fix it). To start it you needed to turn the key to "on." Pop the hood, and run a jumper cable from the batery directly to the starter. The car started fine as long as you did this. Anyway, I parked the car on a Friday night and went to get into it on Monday morning and it was gone. All I could figure is that someone used a tow truck to steal it. I never recovered anything.
In other words, kill switches may not always work.

Most of the time if thefts can't start the car. They give up, unless they are serious they would start searching the car for any switches. But i dont know anyone is crazy enough to do it. CIVIC's are the most common car to get stolen, if you do not have a alarm in there, go on ebay and invest 7 dollars on a fake alarm light, it will help you alot. Or get a immbolozer, if they try to hot wire the immbolizer they would need to pop the hood and attach all the wires back together.
Or else invest 120 on a LCD alarm, it has a pager and vibartes and it blinks on what part of the car has been opened. You should check them out on ebay. Installation cost a bit though unelss you plan to do it yourself.

Brentwood?!?!?!?! Not good. I am moving there next month, and I have TWO Z's. Looks like everything goes in the garage from day one. And yes, I have a kill switch in my 70 240.

Re: Kill switches
That paging alarm sounds cool.
If all you do is disconnect the starter motor, then you can even roll start a manual transmission car. No good...
The kill switch I'm talking about disconnects the ground wire from your coil so there is no spark. You can also kill the trigger wire to the fuel pump relay. No fuel, no spark, no running no matter what. They would need a tow truck to take it.
But I also have an alarm, and a Club, so... its probably easier to steal someone else's car. I know my car is not invincible, but who will bother trying to steal it now? :-D

Re: Kill switches
Humm, What about detachable wheels =P. Or portable motors.
For old cars, some people pull their whole ecu, You can't do this in new cars because it was all these things set up, and if you pull it you will ruine the whole computer system.
My friend with a 1991 crx dose this. He dosen't bolt the ecu down, so if he ever goes somewhere he just unplugs it and takes it along with him. Looks funny though =P

Re: Kill switches
I think i read a post here some time ago on how this guy installed a central locking mechanism that worked seperately to the mechanical one attached to the door handle and lock. From memory he neatly drilled a seperate hole onto the body that this thing locked into. You could then open the door by key but if u did'nt use a remote the central lock stayed locked and the door could'nt be opened. as far as the hatch goes thats another issue all together.
Re: Kill switches
I think you are talking about his "dead bolt" design. A remote acuator stuck a small steel rod from the end of both doors through a hole in the sheetmetal. This was hooked up to his alarm so he used the same remote for them. But, the aftermarket actuators went out once in a while and he had to plan for removing the door panels or some other method of releasing the bolts so that he could open the door to replace them.

=P the car jackers took the wheels and not the engine?! And they took it how far?! I guess they were just stupid, or kids who wanted to use it to get somewhere.
WELL GOOD THING THEY DIDN"T TAKE THE ENGINE =P
