Re: SR 20 DET ?
loki, this isn't aimed at you at all, but in general the sr20det argument always spills into two halves - those against it because it's atrocious or ridiculous concept of putting a smaller displacement motor with less cylinders than the original, and those who think it's a good improvement. Here's why I think sr20det is a good candidate for the swap:
-lighter
-better weight distribution
-lots of engine room
-has plethora of potential
-205hp for s13 to 250hp stock for the s15 sr20det.
-the motor internals are very common and interchangeable between sr20de block found in sentra and infiniti g20, so spare parts aren't an issue.
my 2 cents.

Re: SR 20 DET ?
I think the SR20DE would be slightly different in teh pistons and head department to accomodate higher compression.
Early model SR20DETs had rocker oil spray problems and tend to wearout cams quickly.... they are also slower revving and produce less torque than the RB20DET which is also cheaper and loves to rev... the RB20DET will also give a better weight distribution than stock .... depending on how you set it up ... they have an iron block which takes boost better (from what i have been told) and they sound way better !
Just my oppinion....

Re: SR 20 DET ?
ok, all arguments aside... has anyone actually made the swap? My 73 is a daily driver / backroad scratcher so light weight and 250+/- hp sound good to me. The money it would take to get the same from a l28 is close to a silvia pull out from an importer. I would hate to be a guine pig for this so if any one knows it's been done I wold love to talk with them.

Re: SR 20 DET ?
if you want same power and not spend a lot of money, rb20det + tranny + ecu + wiring harness is about 800 bucks. 215hp stock rating

Yes you can do it, it is probably a bit easier than the RB swap too .... so go for it.

Re: SR 20 DET ?
any idea how to reach the guy who made the swap? plumbing and electical don't worry me too much, but getting the mounts and angles just right could be a bitch. any thought where i might find a tech drawing of the sr20? comparing that to my fsm would be a good start for this. proper planing prevents **** poor performance.

Re: SR 20 DET ?
I would be very interested in talking to the guy who swapped the SR20DET into the 240Z. I plan on going back to Australia soon. Maybe I could check it out while I am out there. I have already purchased a red top SR20DET and plan on doing the swap as soon as I get some extra cash.
