skeleton key
hey i found and old key with a z on it and it works for two different ignitions could it possibly be a skeleton key? there are some numbers on it, it says nissan motors M5241 on it
doubt it... only one way to fing out, try it on all the S30's or w/e generation Z its working in that you see.
Whats a skeleton key?
its a term used for a key that works in all locks of a specific design...
My dad gave me the key to one of his z cars he had in early 90's, and it works in my car ignition and doors. How freaking cool is that?!?!?! Is that a skeleton key?
i dont know.. i think its just a coincidence.
i have a "skeleton key" for CAT. the company that makes like bulldozers and crap |
OH, I have a key like that for my work too. like 1 key works for the internationals, 1 key for the sterlings, 1 key for the volvos.
ok well i thought it looked cool it still had the original Z in it so i guess i'll just keep it for show i'll post a pic later if anyone is interested
old nissan locks wear out, and you can open them with just about any nissan key from that style.
ya, this is old news. An Altima and Z32 key works in a 280zx or S30 unless the locks are new from Nissan. That's how most are stolen...
really, ill have to try that with my Z32 key i kept. lol
I accidentally started my 280ZX with my house key yesterday >.<

All the equipment made by CAT has one ignition key and one electrical lockout key. At least for the last few decades. All the way from the tiny skid-steers to the 300 ton 797 haul trucks. I work for Caterpillar.
I thought skeleton keys were for houses? I didn't know there was such a thing for cars. |
why'd u have to ruin it!!!! ^^^^ lol
but yeah, my locks must not be that worn out cause none of them work with anything but one key... |
ford and chevy made a masterkey that would work with most model vehicles for a long time. i don't know if they still do or not though.
yeah they do a buddy of mine has one for honduhs
wow... Have any of you with older model Z's gotten your locks changed?
Bought stolen Z
I bought a 260 from this couple a couple of months ago, and I believe it was stolen because I drove it home after having to start it with a flat head. The keys they gave me with the car did not work for the locks, but they fit great. I was wondering what I could do to have a key made for my doors and trunk? I bought a new ignition and installed it, so far it works great as well. I read the mention of a Altima key working on early Z's. My brother has an Altima, I'll try that tomorrow morning, if it works, I'll make another key.
Thanks for the information. |
start calling lock smiths, its about 20's per lock to get re-keyed. did they give you a title?!?!?! if so its not stolen, they are just stupid.
