snwbrderphat540 11-05-2007 07:08 PM

doubt it... only one way to fing out, try it on all the S30's or w/e generation Z its working in that you see.

Sweets 11-05-2007 07:17 PM

Whats a skeleton key?

snwbrderphat540 11-05-2007 07:23 PM

its a term used for a key that works in all locks of a specific design...

Sweets 11-05-2007 07:29 PM

My dad gave me the key to one of his z cars he had in early 90's, and it works in my car ignition and doors. How freaking cool is that?!?!?! Is that a skeleton key?

snwbrderphat540 11-05-2007 07:33 PM

i dont know.. i think its just a coincidence.

i have a "skeleton key" for CAT. the company that makes like bulldozers and crap

Sweets 11-05-2007 07:38 PM

OH, I have a key like that for my work too. like 1 key works for the internationals, 1 key for the sterlings, 1 key for the volvos.

tonsoffun300zx 11-05-2007 07:50 PM

ok well i thought it looked cool it still had the original Z in it so i guess i'll just keep it for show i'll post a pic later if anyone is interested

old nissan locks wear out, and you can open them with just about any nissan key from that style.

Bleach 11-05-2007 08:04 PM

ya, this is old news. An Altima and Z32 key works in a 280zx or S30 unless the locks are new from Nissan. That's how most are stolen...

snwbrderphat540 11-05-2007 08:27 PM

really, ill have to try that with my Z32 key i kept. lol

cockerstar 11-17-2007 12:50 AM

if the ignition is worn that much you could start your car with a flathead screwdriver or a knife!

actually, most any Nissan key works from the 80s and 90s. 720, Hardbody, 240SX, Sentra, Alty, ect... :D good news, huh?
that's why I always say get a basic alarm and a hidden kill switch.

That is not a skeleton key, all equipment made by CAT uses the same two keys.

Ratfink 11-23-2007 05:03 PM

All the equipment made by CAT has one ignition key and one electrical lockout key. At least for the last few decades. All the way from the tiny skid-steers to the 300 ton 797 haul trucks. I work for Caterpillar.
I thought skeleton keys were for houses?
I didn't know there was such a thing for cars.

snwbrderphat540 11-23-2007 05:16 PM

why'd u have to ruin it!!!! ^^^^ lol

but yeah, my locks must not be that worn out cause none of them work with anything but one key...

JPerkins 12-06-2007 09:15 PM

ford and chevy made a masterkey that would work with most model vehicles for a long time. i don't know if they still do or not though.

tonsoffun300zx 12-06-2007 11:27 PM

yeah they do a buddy of mine has one for honduhs

Unknown898 12-10-2007 09:56 PM

wow... Have any of you with older model Z's gotten your locks changed?

74-260z 12-12-2007 02:16 AM

Bought stolen Z

I bought a 260 from this couple a couple of months ago, and I believe it was stolen because I drove it home after having to start it with a flat head. The keys they gave me with the car did not work for the locks, but they fit great. I was wondering what I could do to have a key made for my doors and trunk? I bought a new ignition and installed it, so far it works great as well. I read the mention of a Altima key working on early Z's. My brother has an Altima, I'll try that tomorrow morning, if it works, I'll make another key.
Thanks for the information.

snwbrderphat540 12-12-2007 10:43 AM

start calling lock smiths, its about 20's per lock to get re-keyed. did they give you a title?!?!?! if so its not stolen, they are just stupid.

Ya I have the car under my name now, and the pink slip right next to me. $20 per lock is not bad, at least then I can open it like a normal car. Will also install kill switch, just in case.
Thanks for the help
