OK I need help imediatly! Or I'm gonna burn the car!!!!!!!
OK,
I'm working on my 1972 240z, and I get the carbs tuned and in sync. The problem is that it wont idle under 2500rpm. Like the main idle screw in ALL the way out and it idles at 2500rpm. Its an automatic by the way. I put it into reverse and the rpm's drop to 500! I was like WTF!!!!!!! The car Will NOT go. it has ZERO accel, and wont even go up my drive way. Imagine that you have everything tuned on the car, its running awsome, but the idle it WAY high(2500) and it drops to 500 in gear and wont go!!! I'm about to burn the car into the ground. The pistons on the carb open and close at the same time and go the same distances. I'm going nuts here. Can anyone help?
Charles

jebus! sounds to me like "peacekeeper" isn't the right name for you!!
All I can suggest.. is check EVERYTHING... float levels, jet condition... and most important.. VACUUM TEST!
You should have like 15psi... check to see if its current.. check your plugs to verify good mixture... no power = lean condition (usually)... what happens when you pull the choke? does it go? do you have 3-screw or 4-screw SU's? I've noticed that 3-screw SUs seem to have more responsiveness to the choke lever bein pulled.
what happenes when its "idling" at 2,500 and you put your hands over the horns?
good luck! take it easy! sit! relax! have a drink or 2! smoke somethin.. and try tomorrow!

maybe
does it run real ruff kinda like the timing is off to? I had a massive vacuum leak where my EGR valve whent before I put my headers on. Couldn't get it to run for the life of me. It would idle high and then spit and spudder unless my foot was on the floor. Hope I helped.
