New Z - Fresh from the Body Shop!

When I sold my 70 240z 3 years ago I knew I would have another some day. Well, that day has arrived. A friend that started a Z project but has lost interest in the YEARS that the car has been in the shop called and asked me if I wanted his car and a garage full of parts.

"Well, if I have to..."

Still clearing space in my garage to bring it home, and figuring out how much to ask for my 90 300zx since I can't keep two Z's, but it won't be long. Attached are a couple of pics.

Let me know if you need parts. I have 3 sets of wheels, a couple of diffs, sets of carbs, a spare head. I will be going through all the stuff for months.

The car just got painted.... you remove handles & trim when you paint. Duh! Notice the missing quarter windows?

Interesting that you noticed the door handles. They are just not installed, but the keyhole is shaved, so the doors will lock/unlock with a remote only. He got the idea to do that from my old 70 240z, which DID have shaved door handles. I used a solonoid in the doors with a remote to pop open the doors. It worked great. I think I got the solonoids for around $100 from Summit Racing, and the keyless entry for $39 from Ebay. This time I will be putting an alarm system in.

He also had all the side markers shaved and emblems removed. I did the same on the car I sold (at least the emblems) and it looked so clean.

The new car has a few mods, more than I even know about at this point. Here are the basics:

Color is British Racing Green stolen from our CEO's Jaguar
L28 with 5-speed & R200
Twin SU's with Holley electric fuel pump
Header with 2.5 exhaust & stainless steel muffler
Brakes are not finished. Probably will use Z32 or RX7 Calipers.
300zx electronic ignition, MSD 6A, Optima battery
Howe aluminum radiator, electric fan
Coilovers, Ron Carter triangulated strut tower bracing
Tokico Illumina's, Energy suspension bushing, upgraded sway bars

Brakes, wiring harness, and interior is all that needs to be completed to get the car road-worthy again. By summer I should be good to go!

Attached a pic of the old Z that had shaved doors. I sold it a few years ago and within a couple of months the guy I sold it to got t-boned and the car was totalled. What a waste.

TheRamZ, I checked out your MSN Space and saw your strut, brake, R200, and fusebox mods. Very cool. Always hated the 240 fusebox, and had to add a second one to my old Z to handle the stereo and door solonoids.

Regarding brakes, I could use some advice. My buddy started the setup with 82 rear Vette rotors in the front, and Z32 rotors in the rear. I am going to need to fabricate a bracket for the caliper if I stay with the corvette rotors in the front. Any ideas? The car currently has no working brakes, so that will be the first thing I have to tackle.

I have a complete set of front and rear Z32 calipers, 4 front mazda rx7 (4piston aluminum calipers) and 2 Z31 rear calipers. He was going to run the Mazda in the front, and Z31 in the rear, but then decided to go with the Z32 calipers. I have a spare front 240z strut assembly w/vette rotor installed that I would utilize for mock-up/design. If anyone has advice I would love to hear it.

DURRR i knew it was painted but i noticed theres no keyholes... so i was wondering if it was all shaved or if the handles were still just off from painting... i cant believe you doubted me.

That Is Very Clean, I Would Have Shaved The Side Markers As Well No Real Use For Them.

I agree. On the new car (green one) the side markers are shaved. I wished I had done it on the old one (silver), but was focused more on getting it running than on visual mods at the time.
