New owner need help identifying stuff
Howdy! I'm the proud new owner of a '72 240z with a 2.8l conversion and turbo. I think the turbo is an add-on, it's a Rotomaster 04BRM9, which I hear is now the Garrett T04B. My problem is I don't know what is from what on my new ride. It's got an L28 block, N47 head, intake marked E88, the turbo, and a Holley double-pumper. 1) Was the L28 turbo ever offered N/A as opposed to fuel injected? 2) Is the block/head/intake combo a stock set from a 280z/x turbo? 3) What turbo's did Nissan use for the 2.8L 280z's? I wound up with the car because the turbo is shot. Looks like I can rebuilt or by rebuilt for <$450. Don't know where this intake came from either. What did the stock turbo 280z intakes look like? Also, no idea how old this mod. on the car is. No intercooler, or boost control that I can see. Given the engine is probably a little tired, should I have these items on with the next turbo? Any help would be great!

for question No 1Do you mean carburettered instead of F/I? If so, I think that all turbos would be F/I as there are problems associateed with intercooling carburettered turbos (maybe just in suck through setups?) as fuel condeses in the intercooler and even a mild backfire can blow the intercooler up. There is a fair chance i am wrong about nissan's setup however, as we did not get turbo 280zx's in australia, so i am not familiar with them (could be a blow through). There are by all means carburettered turbos, i just don;t know if nissan would have done it (fair chance i am wrong)
go to http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/2824/heads.html
for head info, this guy also has other really useful information on L28 blocks, but i couldn't find them (i have them saved on my hard drive)
The N47 head is a non turbo head off a 280zx- the P90 head is the turbo
as for the last question about add ons, if you want more power definitely, also if you add a boost controller, you definitely need an intercooler if you plan on winding up the boost. This will stop pinging(to an extent) A good exhaust also helps on a turbo
Most of this is probably of no use to you, but i hope i helped a litlle
