missing bolt?

When I went to purchase my first z, i noticed that many of the Z's in the area were missing the last exhaust manifold bolt behind the 6th piston. Can anyone tell me why this happened and if it poses a threat to my 280 Z? Thanx.

Re: missing bolt?

Zwatcher,
Did it look like the bolt was snapped off in the head ??

For what I understand the stud tends to build up heat and
also corrode . This causes the bolt to snap off in the head during
removal. If you ever have your exhust manifold off take the
studs out and put antiseize on the threads this helps to keep
them from breaking off in the head. I always use anti seize when
putting hardware into aliminum.

Hope this helps,
Mike

Re: missing bolt?

Thanx. I checked on the bolt in my Z and it was starting to show signs of stress and rust. Thank you for what would have probably been a costly problem. ^.^
