Ls3 or 2jz
Ls3 or 2jz
I have a bit of a problem, I bought my 280z Datsun a few months back and i have decided to do an engine swap for the best, i have a tight budget and i really don't car if i keep it Nissan of v8..
Im in between a 2jz GTE DOHC, Rb25 DET or and ls3 with turbo in the future..
I want to know which is the best for my car and pros and cons i want to pick up 600hp and still keep a type of jdm look to it.. My first options was the ls3 because of the 430hp stock..
HELP ME PLEASE>>

Are you familiar with each of these engines? Have you done custom motor swaps before? Have you priced out how much it will cost to buy and and install each of them?
There seems to be more part availability for the 2JZ since it has been used in US cars... unlike the RB which never officially made it to any US models.

tight budget and horsepower do not go together. Plenty of options on what powertrain you want. Better off upgrading suspension and brakes before you get so call crazy on horsepower. "600 horsepower and still keep jdm look". what the hell does that mean? If by some far chance you have 600 horses in any z im sure you will no longer have a stock look. Full cage will probably be a must with all the extra bell and whistles. Need to figure out what your budget is and then set a goal. Try to make a realistic goal.
By keeping a stock look is like not put on of those hoods that look like if you actually had a horse inside the engine bay, the 2jz has interested me because of the prices and what ive seen on some supras and some other cars. Ive found a 2jz for 2,000 with 6 speed manual transmission.. i need some pointer on how to do a few other things.. ive seen z's running 600 and the still lok increadibly nice..
So have you done motor swaps before?
The major hurtles are:
Let us also not forget that 600hp on stock wheels will be quite ineffective. You'll need some good fat meats, and fender flares (not stock looking at all...).

- Motor & trans mounts (and drive line matching)
- Wiring
- Exhaust
- Cooling system

I Wanted to get flowmaster series 10 exhaust, caus ei dont want the praaaaaaaaa civic noise... and i have no idea where to get 2jz mounts for a 280z, and yea the wheels are all going to be changed i dont mean to keep it stock just not to make it into something that would fall into a car show or a ricer i liek the whole fender flares and lowering it etc..
Third time's the charm?
Just wondering if you have any experience with swapping motors.
CIVICS and 4cylinders make that "civic noise".
A 2JZ isn't going to make that noise, especially turbo motors (i.e. 2JZGTE).
You make / fab them.

From 10 seconds of Googling, it sounds like Tech2Motorsports may make some motor mounts for the swap.

make your own and save some money. Fabbing a girdle with engine mounts and a trans mount is not really hard. OR keep being spoon fed. Whats wrong with the L28. All this money you wanting to waste why not just send your engine to rebello and have a beefed up L. Sounds like you need to be around some people who worked on cars and learn.

As the others have stated, it might be best to do an L28et swap since it's a direct bolt in and you won't have as many issues with the wiring and fabrication of things.
If you have your heart set on the 2JZ, read up on Hybridz as a few people there have done the swap. You're best to use the R154 5 speed and not the V160 6 speed. The V160 is a huge transmission that will require a lot more work to fit. Plus the gearing will not be of much use since it was designed for a 3.27 rear end.

Slip diff? You mean LSD (Limited Slip Differential)?
