Installing T tops
I've been looking for a decent Z for over a year now, and I couldn't find one I liked, except one, but it doesn't have T-tops. About how difficult, and how much money would it cost to install T-tops in the car?
Thanks for any input

Re: Installing T tops
I have no idea personally, but have you checked with like your local custom body shops and perhaps anyone that installs sunroofs in your area, or maybe even call MSA?

Re: Installing T tops
That is near impossible. It would be CHEAPER to buy a t-tops Zcar half-way accross the country and then pay $1500 to have it trucked to your city.
I don't think anyone has actually done this because there are so many Z's out there with T-tops.

Re: Installing T tops
Ya, that would work. Buy a 280zx with T-tops, then cut out the center support and trace the T-tops to design a new center section. You can probably use the original end pieces to lock it in place.
Re: Installing T tops
Oh, that's right. You said 240Z. Yes, the roof is different. Also, each door has a brace around the top side of the window that would be viewable with the roof off.
Well, people have made convertibles that last a long time. yes, the roof is an integral part of the structure of the 240Z. You would definatly want at least a simple brace. Some Z places sell an interrior brace which is kind of like a low profile cage. It connects the front of the interror and the back making the floor more rigid since the roofline no longer keeps the car from bending in the middle. Also, some people have just welded in additional support underneath the car along the original frame rails.

Not if you really like convertibles. I would do it because I think the 240Z is such a cool little sports car and it looks great as an open top... but I don't have the right car yet. :-)
Unless you all thing it would be a good idea to hack up my 1970 Fairlady Z!
I don't think so... actually, maybe a ZX would be just as good as a convertible. They also aren't as rare or valuable.
