I think its New clutch Time

I have an awful loud squeal when I am in gear after the 280z warms up a bit. My mechanic buddy said it sounds like the release bearing....

So while we are in there I am just going to replace the whole clutch. My question is what do these mean when looking up clutch parts...

Clutch 1. 9-1/2 X 1 X 24T SPLINE
Clutch 2. (napa) 8 7/8"-24-1"
Clutch 3. (napa) 225mm Splines:24

Thanks

Those are clutch referance sizes. #1 is 240mm for ZX cars. #2and #3 are the same, 225mm = 8 7/8 diameter. All are 24 spline. Your stock 280z has 8 7/8 dia.

thank you

Should i go with what is labled "proformance" ?

240mm came in 2+2 (z and zx) and turbo cars. performance unless you have performance engine. other wise a stock clutch will be fine. i have a 6 puck in my z with goodies. the 6 puck is a little hard at first but once use to can be fun. make sure u bleed you clutch system again. go ahead and check you slave to see if it needs replacing as well as master. just cheap insurance.

That's right but you will also need the flywheel for the 240mm. A six puck is for racing with a robust drive train and suspension. It will break a oem drive line.

what happens when you use OLD stock parts

You can get a Center Force clutch kit on ebay, it includes the alignment tool. As long as you don't side step the clutch you won't break anything!

it only had 118k on it! and was owned by a hippie woman. definatly didnt get beat on. lol

OK I dont think it is the Release Bearing!

Reason why is that after it warms up even in neutral when i rev it up it still squeals. Most likley just the belts.

Thank goodness. $30.00 vs. $200.00 is much better.

Maybe next time you hear a weird noise you should just walk around the car & listen... the clutch & belts aren't too close to each other & you should be able to distinguish where the noise is coming from. :D

Well when you buy a 30 y/o car you just expect the worst....

I find being a pessimist works out for the best.
Either I am always right or pleasantly surprised.
