Re: how much does restoration cost
Alot of oem parts are not available so if you are missing any parts you may not be able to get them.It also takes alot of time to get it done right. My car is not stock but it took about 1.5 years and it still not complete. If you want it done right about 15 to 25000 dollars with correct cad plating on parts and bolts.

Re: how much does restoration cost
I just finished completely restoring a 1980 280 ZX. Like the others posts said - It ain't cheap. I kept an Exel spreadsheet of all my costs. It took me 14 months and my tab was $19,131.19 and I have yet to do the engine. This hobby is not for the faint of heart. I - (like almost everyone else) seriously underestimated the cost of this project. The problem is - when you get into the project - you find all sorts of unplanned expenses that really need to be addressed - and there is simply no place to stop.
Finally you have to finish the car to get ANYTHING for it, and then - Finished it will only be worth about a 1/3 of what you have spent.
The best advice I can give - BUY the best running Zcar you can afford and be happy with it. If you want, fix it a little as you go. DO NOT do a ground up restoration unless your are ready to spend 30K and 2 years to do it.

PS you can see my car by clicking on "RIDES" then clicking on 79-83, then clicking on gerryG on 3rd row.
