hey guys im new here

well im 2 dead presidents from gettin a 1971 260Z, it has no engine, tranny or drive shaft, but its rust free and it looks like a very promissing project, just one question, is the drive train off the S130 compatible with the S30's? i just got a deal for tranny, drive shaft and many other goodies for less than 100 bucks so wadda'ya guys say? is there a thread on the website with all this info?

Yes all drive train parts from a 280zx(s130) are interchangeable with a 240z,260z,280z(s30).

as long as both cars are 2 seaters you can use trannies and motors and drive shaft, if they are conflicting seat combos (like you got a 2 seater the donor car is the 2+2) you can't use the drive shaft. also the differentials are compatible BUT the S130 used an R200 diff and teh 240z used the r180 so they are the same almost other than the rear bolts on them, you need the moustache bar out of a 280Z (not zx) to use the R200 from a 280zx... as for the half shafts, im not sure if the 240z ones are the same spline count.... they might be, if not then you need to use 280z half shafts but then you also need the 280z stub axles or the entire rear strut assembly. BTW drive shafts match the differential as well. very fickle.... welcome to zdriver

I thought the wheel base is longer on the ZX than the s30 so double check the length of the ds. The ZX is also EFI so get carbs or pull all the engine harness and ECU from the ZX. An easy swap IF the donor has no issues with the sensors and injectors. If in dought go with the carbs or your in for some huge pain in the *** troubles.

the zx driveshaft is longer then the s30. the s30 is a 240,260 and 280. go figure that datsun/nissan named their cars after their engine >_<

haha thanks guys, hey i know what u mean, i spent 4 years restoring a 1985 Corolla GTS (AE86) i got it from scratch and i had to treasure hunt most of the parts but if most if not all parts of the S130 can be interchangable it could be a lot easier, i saw a L28 Turbo in junk yard, might consider lookin into that, ill take pics and post em thanks for the help
