Help with cleaning stock rims
I have rims like the ones I have atatched to this post, the clear coat has apparently eroded on part of mine and needs to be reworked. What can I do to rework these rims. A good buffing and cleaning then applying regular canned clear coat? I'm afraid I've blown my first 2 months budget just getting her back on the road, and now I've got to find cheap alternatives to this and stopping the here and there rust.

Re: Help with cleaning stock rims
you can sandblast them if you know someone with a blaster, and paint them with metal paint. spray on clearcoat and pain has worked just fine for me and makin my 280 zx look good for cheap.

Re: Help with cleaning stock rims
i have similiar problems with my stock rims. It collects so many gunk over the year that it's nearly dark. I've tried the spray can rim cleaner, no luck on that. So I'm also wondering what can be done.

also I would like to know where did you get those wheels? I would want to replace mine.

somethin i just did to my 79, was go to pep boys and pick up some "aircraft stripper." this stuff sprays on and sits for 20-30 minutes and bubbles all the old clear coat, paint, dirt, grime and all the other crap from the years up to where you can scrape it off. i used a small copper wire brush to get into all the holes and angles. then you spray off the old paint and the stripper, let the wheels dry and put some polish on em. some people like to use clear coat.
