Headlight Buckets

Got a set of these off fleabay. Mixed set, one steel, one fiberglass. Pretty pissed as this was not disclosed. Now the seller (who has an excellent feedback score!) is trying to tell me that the later buckets from Nissan were fiberglass.

Is this true? Were they not all steel?

No they were not all steel, some were fiberglass but I can not remember if it was the earlier ones or later ones. There are also aftermarket fiberglass ones I believe.

Were the Fiberglass ones, I think the steel started in 74 or 75.

I have owned a '70 - glass, a late '71 glass, a late '72 steel, a '74 steel, a '77 steel. I'm pretty sure only the '70 - '71 were glass. This follows suit with everything I've seen in the junk yards.

Fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) headlight buckets were standard up to 6 / 72. Part number 63115-E4100 After that, the headlight buckets were steel. Initially, FRP was used as a material because of the complex shape. The steel shapes actually have a seam weld.

My 1971 240z, built 12/70 has fiberglass headlight buckets, the 72 parts car had steel. I've read only the earliest Zs had the fiberglass ones, but I'm no expert. Gary

Headlight buckets

I've got a 70 z with fiberglass buckets but i think they aren't original cause they have fastener holes for what i think were headlight covers.

No headlight buckets came stock with holes in them. Holes drilled for headlight covers were optional, Zeefogey.
