Drift Wing
Hey guys I've included an attachment of a Z fitted with a drift wing. Apparently the owner made it himself. I didn't think at the time to ask him where he got the materials. The main part of the spoiler was apparently a chopped up retired helicopter wing. The rest I'm not sure. Does anyone know where I'd get these materials as I'm dying to have a go at making my own.
Thanks guys,
Gavin,

Re: Drift Wing
Super cool rear wings made from used helicopter rotor blades are now available. They are assembled & painted semi-flat black, ready for mounting.
Standard wings for 1970 to 1978 Z cars list for $200.00. Custom & adjustable wings can be made to order at an additional cost. Photos available upon request at: oad@easystreet.com

Re: Drift Wing
No offense, but to me ZCAR owners are people who don't do that ricy import tuner bull %@!&. Don't get me rong, I don't care what anybody else does. It's just that a wing that big will hamper the cares abilities, it's not a 200MPH+ indy car. There is a reason why people are not laughing when it comes to the performance of a ZCAR on the track. A guy with a 5.0 is sure quick to drag race, but try getting him to follow a Z around a road race track. So please don't be like that Honda with the weedwacker muffler and jet fighter wing.

Re: Drift Wing
Davis your a bit of a clown that Z pulls 12 sec 1/4 miles so obviously it needs a bit of down force. I know that the rice boys go to town on the bodykits and exhaust systems but I like the way they do them up. What's wrong with the drift style wing on a Z I mean the car can look like new with a gnose may aswell make it look modern.

Re: Drift Wing
Not all Z drivers use there cars for street driving... some use for track also... therefore the wing will go to good use... because the car that it that wing is on actaully has the engine to actaully use the wing to its potential of creating downforce and the rear... but i'm not sure even if that wing even creates downforce or not....

Re: Drift Wing
i know of other 12 second z's and quicker ones that need no large wing on the back for added downforce....and it seems to me that the yellow z in question would need to go about 180mph to use that thing......seems to me that he's actually slowing his car down by adding drag when he could go faster without it??????? just some thoughts.......it does look interesting tho.

Re: Drift Wing
Usually I have a strong dislike for that type of wing, especially since every single car in the "Rice and Rediculous" had an aluminum wing. However, I must say, the wing on that yellow Z really looks nice - not that I would ever put one on just for looks.

Re: Drift Wing
Who cares what anyone thinks....it seems that a lot of people will automatically label a car "RICE" because it has a huge exhaust etc. Should we re-define rice? Rice is someone who adds things that make you look fast when the car is actually slow or no mods where actually done to the engine (intake does not count). Come on man...his Z is a turbo and I'll bet you right now it's as fast as it looks. I guess I would be one of the ones who thinks his car and wing looks bad ***! It's a nice change of scenery and I'm personally not happy with the options that other companies have to offer as far as styling goes. I wish more Z people would not worry about what other people think about their Z's and do what they like...it seems that when someone does something different, they get their asses handed to them buy purist and the like.
I have a wing similar to his but not as high on my 83 280zx turbo and I’ve got nothing but compliments from people who don’t even know what a Z was and from Z folks as well. It does serve a purpose...no not for 150mph speeds an up....but just for the fact that I like it and believe me, my turbo is no slouch. I’d put a picture up but I might get labeled as a rice boy lol.

Re: Drift Wing
Well, when a wing is attached to the rear of a car, unless it's merely for cosmetic purposes, the point is to produce the maximum amount of downforce with a minimum amount of drag. This created downforce adds to the traction of a vehicle around a track or stabilizes a drag racing car at high speeds on a runway. For example, a Formula One car produces downforce equivalent to 4 times its own weight, allowing it to pull as much as 5 g's around a corner on a track which is amazing considering that a regular car can't even pull 1g on a skidpad. So, you will lose some speed on the straights due to the extra drag created, but will compensate for this when you complete a corner at a much higher speed due to the added downforce.
