Haynes Manual
The Hanes Manual is good, but it can be confusing to us Americans, as it is written by a Brit. There are several (okay, a lot) of parts that have different names on this side of the ocean, and when you know nothing about cars it can be really tough to figure it out. I don't know how many years it was before I figured out a "wing" was a "fender."
That said, if you refer to the US to British translation table in the front of the book, it's the best manual out.
