There are a few rare z sites that actually post the weights of the '70 through '71. I know my '70 weight 2293 without me in it because I had it weighed at the Road Atlanta race track scales (my car is stock) I KNOW FOR A FACT that the '73 weighs more than the '72. I had a '73 that weighed a little over 2600 lbs. without me in it and my father's '72 weighed around hi 2400's. These are stock 240z's on race scales which is accurate. As the years went on, z's got heavier in weight due to safetly regulations being upped. I will put my life on it that a '73 is heavier.

 

well the 73 is a bit heavier. heavier gauge of metal, smog components, earlier cars came with smaller tires which might account for a wee bit, 70's had different seats, early cars had fibreglass headlight buckets, anyways lots of little things that can add up. basically put yes a 73 is heavier. worth it ? yes, if you're goin with some serious power it may help with structural. Split all the seams in my 71 with my turbo motor after many hard launches. wasnt the best car to begin with though. You can probably keep the weight down if you tried. how bent are you on saving weight??? gotta try i know. seen a 351v8 240 couple weeks ago, guy was hellbent on saving weight. replaced all 4 corners with fibreglass, took out most the glass and replaced it with plexi. you this bent on saving weight?Can you find a 71 easily.
