Body kit for the 240Z

Well, I was planning on getting the 240Z painted and am considering getting a body kit while I'm at it. Maybe something like this (MSA)?

...might do without the rear wing though. Anyone have any experience with any kits other than MSA? Just want to check my options......

This place is in the process of making new kits. They are the ones that bought all the old Arizona ZCar molds.

Just my opinion but besides the g-nose, I think 240Zs look the best with just stock euro bumpers and an air dam and a small rear spoiler if you feel like putting one on.

Did you pick a color already?

Definitely leaning towards red like yours.....although I've also considered yellow which was its original color....

Quoted for truth, g-nose depending on your taste or not.. but good luck trying to find one anyhow . Stock Euro bumpers with a simple air dam, nothing fancy. small rear spoiler if need be.

If youre going to repaint, I'd suggest the original color of your car, otherwise make sure you paint the entire engine bay, door jams, and everything else. Otherwise its kind of tacky in my opinion.. In any case, I'd go with an original Datsun Z color code, or at least a nissan color

Snowy.....my 240Z has no bumpers, thats why I was considering the body kit....

Daniel, i was definitely leaning towards a Datsun/ Nissan color....and i definitely can see what you mean about the whole body being painted.....the previous paint job wasn't so good, I can see traces of yellow in the interior and in the engine bay...

Really?...I'll check into it. I've just seen the price of the original bumpers- NOT CHEAP!! ....the body kit parts are alot cheaper....

Carbon fiber original style 240Z bumpers? Hm, sounds interesting.. I personally like the euro style bumpers nice and chrome. I've seen some nice Z's with the chrome bumpers painted a nice dark color (black? gloss black? not sure) with a nice air dam.. but to each and their own. If you were going to repaint to the factory yellow, original chrome bumpers with a nice air dam would definitely be a sweet ride.

Daniel

Something similar to this.. but I would probibly choose different rims, put some sideview mirrors on (lol), and a different airdam.

Thanks for the info....I order through the zstore all the time....

I'm leaning towards going that route.....getting the bumpers instead of the body kit, and then maybe a front air dam....its like the 240Z is too pretty to tamper with too much...plus its cheaper really since the bumpers won't need painted. Only bad thing is, for the '73, I guess I'll need the modified brackets...

I have that MSA type 2 on my car. I like it. The person who had it before me crashed it though, and now I have to fix it.

By the way, I have an early origional 240z bumper in good condition that I would sell for cheap.

That looks good Justin. I like the MSA 2 kit...only down side is they'd have to do some type of alteration to a 240Z because of the front turn signals....

Also, I don't think the early 240Z bumper will fit the '73 right w/o alterations....seems like all the aftermarket bumpers are designed for the '70-'72 240s....

i dont think there is much difference in mounting is there? i think its just the flushness of the stands..... so it might not sit quite far enough back on the sides... i think... but i think thats fixable... dont the mounts push back hydraulicly? or something? lol.... i dont know for sure

I don't know for sure either....just know when i was looking at the carbon fiber bumpers on MSA, they said there for '70-'72 240Zs...although they can be made to fit the '73 or early '74 260s....not sure how, I'll have to call them...

It's not a stock Datsun color. Bigjim painted it so he would have the info on it. I thinking about re-painting it rosso corsa (ferrari red)

Early bumpers sit closer to the body. They use different brackets so you have to mod your brackets or get a hold of early brackets and swap them out.

I bought one of those bumpers a couple months ago from a guy that was gonna install it on his 72, but he sold the car. It's still in bubble wrap. I think the bubble wrap weighs more than the bumper. Anyway, all MSA says is "These bumpers can be used on 73 to early 74 Z's, however you must purchase early 240Z bumper brackets and modify their installation. Please call for further details." The picture that they used to have for the rear bumper showed a 260Z with a caption saying that the car had the modified brackets.
