ATF in oil? kills sludge?
Hey Gang,
Welp I've got a lifter ticking, which is a common problem on the 3rd gen Z32TT's, some people have suggested putting a glass of ATF (Automatic Tranny fluid) in for a few hundred miles then changing my oil to remove buildup. I'm just curious if anyone has heard of that as a solution for removing oil sludge from an engine. Sounds a little scary to me and I was wondering what everyone though?
Thanks!

Re: ATF in oil? kills sludge?
That's a 20 year old trick. I knew guy who did that on a older Ford motor. Took him a long time to get it cleaned up. The idea was that the ATF is a higher detergent concentrate that would loosen the build up in the hydralic lifter. I doubt you need to do it with todays oils. I would get a good quality oil (Redline) and change it often which is what you have to do with the ATF anyway.
Good luck.
