77 Z
I have an opportunity to get a mint 77 Z for $800 - $1000. I know more about the 240s then 280s. What are some pro's and con's about the 77's? Also this should be a dual SU right? Were Flattops standard in this year? (Hope Not).
THanks,
Sam

Re: 77 Z
This is the first gen FI. I've got the same car but mine is a California model. It has the floor temp light in the dash. If the car is running and running right, ****** it up. Make sure you check for rust in the floor (all Z's) and under the battery tray and get a compression check on it. Also, when you look at the car make sure the owner hasn't warmed it up for you. Some sellers will do that to hide cold start problems with the first generation FI. Other things to check that I found on mine after the fact is look for removed components of the EFI system - apparent by the plugged vacuum lines. Anyway, if the car is as good as you say you won't get hurt for 800-1000. I'd buy it after an inspection. Good luck.

Thanks for the info ..
Went down to check it out this afternoon. This car was no where near mint. The area where the tie rods mount to the car were just about rusted through. There was rust everywhere, battery tray, rocker panels, trunk lid, hood, around the windshield. After pointing all this out I asked the owner what they were expecting for the car and she said $1800 but would accept $1200. She actually raised the price from what she had first told me. Oh well this car wasn't worth $50.00

Re: 77 Z
2 P words when looking at Z's. Persistance and Patience.
Something I learnt I hung out buying a 260z and eventually found a 240z problem was I didn't know it had rust in the battery area. Oh well it's now down to a bare shell and undergoing full resto which reminds me to go out there and do some work.
My opinion buy a very early 240z there the best buy and return the most in future.
Also if it means spending extra for something with no rust or bog in the body it's worth it because you will save $$$$ as I'm finding out lol....
Good luck
