Yes but it is a pain in the ***. And will suck about 20hp.

...when you run it. A/C turned off, no difference as the compressor has a nice low-drag electric clutch on it. Agreed, adding it is not fun. But neither is sitting in traffic in Tucson in July without it. Everything's relative, I suppose. If you do add it, save yourself some future problems and go the R134 route instead of the R12 Freon.
