280Z stuff
Yikes! I just saw the miles on this Z and its not good its nearly 300K I'm slightly amazed that this engine still runs good! I knew L engines where strong but damn... Uh Anyways is there something I should look out for? besides oil leaks really
Oh Ya... But its not nearly as bad as I feared it may be! And get this I will be like the 3rd owner of that Z! PS: Steel wheels, R180, and an auto suck! PSS: Why are all the Zs I've ever owned brown... |
I thought you were dead set on a 240z? :D I coulda sold you my 280zt... if I would ever get around to wiring up the ecu.
|
... Want a Camaro? The deal I struck with him was a trade and he gives me $500 soooo ya ^^" Unless you want an 89 Camaro RS I dont think I can get your 280ZT lol
Anyways I changed my mind once I realized how stupid simple it is to make a 240Z "clone" from a 280Z |

|
Don't you have to cut out the whole tail light panel for the 240z swap?
|

How'd he get that much rust in Vernal, Utah? Did it used to live in the snow/ski/mountains area?
Depending on how it was maintained, a 300k L28 may not be too bad. Mine had about 275k on it when I bought it. I mic'd the crank when I took the engine apart for my rebuild and modifications, and the most wear was 0.0003" on one rod journal. All other rod and mains were 0.0001" or 0.0002". Just a couple 10,000ths of wear. If the head was maintained (valve job, guides/seals), it could be quite nice. On the other hand, while Z-shopping, I saw one owned by an idiot who did basically no maintenance and threw a rod, punching a hole in the block in less than 200k. :disgust: I politely said it wasn't quite what I was looking for and wished him luck with his sale. Still, I hope you're in a body work kind of mood if you get that one. That's a lot of tin worm damage to go after. Good luck, and here's hoping it's one more Z saved! cheers, Dave |
You know?If that dam camaro would just sell I would have gotten myself a 72 240Z... Now Im questioning if I want to do the trade Im a bit worried I may be getting in over my head in work on the car, engine wise anyways.
|
Ok Im gonna go get the Z Wednesday I've decided I want it for sure, And if there really in a 280ZXT I'll go get its engine and transmission if they dont ask to much for the stuff.
|
OKAY! I got the Z home Safe and sound! Now, I have checked and replaced any bad fuses, and the fuse-able links are fine. But Im not getting any power at all to the wires to the fuel pump. Any ideas?
|
Did you check the fuel pump relay?
Did you check by Tear A Part for that 280zxt today? |
I just picked up the Z and left unfortunately
I was gonna ask you if you could pick up the manual stuff needed for a auto to 5 speed swap from that 240Z an PNP then I'll play you back for it and for the work for it (Tried to get into PNP but it was so full I couldn't get my truck in @.@ And where IS the fuel pump relay!? I've been looking for it but I cant see it anywhere... |
I could probably do that, unfortunately I won't have any time until Monday or Tuesday... the rest of my week is booked so solid I can't even go buy the BMW I've been looking at...
FPR on a 280z is right above the hood puller handle. There's a pic in the FSM from xenons30.com |
Oh... I was looking all over the engine bay for it lol Im to used to S130s lol
And if you cant, dont worry about it. ITs just that 240Z will be the cheapest way I can get all that manual parts needed @.@ Driveshaft, Brake/clutch pedals Shift boots Hard lines ... Hmm I'll check ebay for now And front Turn signal fenders.... Bleh I just better plan another trip out and pray there isnt to much snow... |
Fuel pump relay isnt clicking. Going to check the wires for power when Im not frozen solid
|
Huh, California Model Z... I got a lot of stuff to start deleting lol Gotta remember to leave the vac line for the auto tho
|
Well I fixed it all now, And now theres a new problem. Its has an electric carburetor fuel pump. Not an EFI one. Good thing I have a spare!
|
Post
Double post Triple Post Quadruple post And I forgot the one for 5 lol Anyways A new problem showed up, the rear drivers side drum is frozen up and I can NOT get the sucker off... Any ideas? |
5 is quintuple ;)
and I would just use a BFH and plenty of penetrating oil (I'm assuming you're replacing the shoes and having the drums turned though) |
I just wanna get it unfrozen for now really. not ruin it. I found a few tips of getting them off tho and I'll try that.
|
well, if you're careful, a BFH won't ruin it, iirc that's what my dad used on my Firebird when we were taking it apart for the first time...
