I think you guys are missing the point, (not trying to be rude) Telling him what you pay isnt going to help cause he's 16 and a new driver. If your in a state where they allow you to cary liability only, then It should cost you the same no matter what car you drive because its based on you and not the cars value. If your carrying Collision, then It will be more expensive because its a 2 seater, 2 door sports car. But on the other hand its over 20 years old, so that lowers it quite a bit. Call the insurance company and they should be able to give you a hypothetical quote.
Good luck,

When I was 16 (mind you that was in 1990) I paid about $100 mo for liability only on a 240Z.
There is problem with the Z, however. Its hightly addictive. Once you start driving one,you generally can't stop. So yes, to answer your question, it is very reliable.

Re: 280z insurance/reliablity
I bought my 240z when I was 16 insurance was a bit more than other cars but it will depend on the individual insurance company.
I now daily drive a toyota corolla and insurance is fairly expensive not as expensive as my old modded 260z but still close.
There not too bad a car to maintain insure or any of that provided u get something half decent to start with.

Re: 280z insurance/reliablity
Hey Elmo,
I might be too late but if you are looking for insurance I would recommend trying an insurance company that specializes in classic/sports cars.
When I insured my 260Z I rang a number of major companies. Half said they would not insure something that old, and the other half offered me exorbitant quotes. Eventually I found a company specializing in vintage cars and they gave me excellent deal in comparison.
