280 into 240
Hi All,
Got a question, I'm putting a 81 280zx and tranny into my little 72 240z.
1. I'm I correct that the motor and tranny is a direct drop in meaning if I put it into my 240 the motor mounts and tranny mounts are unchanged?
2. Whats the little red round thing on the side of the L28 with 2 wires comming out of it? Where do I connect it too?
3. Can I use my original 240 drive shaft or do I need to use the 280 and shorten it?
My engine combo is 81 L28 F54 flattops and tranny stock specs, E88 shaved larger valves stock cam for now, MSA header, K&N filters, 2.5 exhuast to a free flow Flow Master muffler.
Thanks For All Your Help.

Re: 280 into 240
1. Yeah, it's direct swap, your motor mounts will match up. MY '71 was originally an automatic, so think that effected the transmission crossmember, but he 5-speed tranny DID bolt onto my automatic's crossmember.
2. Red thing, near the oil filter? Is that the oil pressure sending unit?
3. I used my 240's drive shaft with no problems, keep in mind my 240z was an auto.
Hope this helps!

Re: 280 into 240
Thanks for both of your posts. I've been reading and kinda knew but since now I got all my peices became uncertain. I guess it was that second thought of what the hell am I getting into looking at the mess in my garage. It's kinda scary but now I feel a lot better knowing I won't have to spend more money. From here on out it's just my labor. Thanks again!
