280 to 240 bumper
Hello everyone. I am a new owner (3 weeks now) of a pretty nice, but stock '77 280Z and this has got to be one of the best cars ever (yes I know, it is a 280, but I still love it)! Anyway, I am looking for a little help. I really like the look of the thin lines of the 240 bumpers and I would like to exchange them for my BIG bumpers, but is it possible (read easy!)? Are they direct, bolt-on replacements or is there some differences in the mounting hardware that would make this a tough swap? Thanks in advance for any help. Z-ya soon.

Re: 280 to 240 bumper
The link to that site no longer works. Rob Sime who owns that sent me this info when I tried to find it and could not reach it.
"In my method you need 260 bumpers. You then remove your large bumpers and
take out the screw at the end of the strut. This will release the gas that
is part of the 5mph system. they take something sharp and long and stick it
straight back into the screw hole. You will puncture a membrane and an oil
will squirt out. Now you can push the bumper back toward the body. Mount the
260 bumpers and in the front you just bolt them in. In the rear you have to
drill a couple holes in the body to mount the sides. Pretty simple. Paint
the exposed metal bodywork that is newly exposed to match the body and your
done." - Rob Sime
If you want more details you can email him RSime@Pacbell.Net.
I'm going a different route. I just picked some 73 bumper brackets that I will use for my swap.
