Need help! car over heating!

get a hold of an temp gun and point it on top of radiator by the hose and measure the temp there when your car is reading high. normal should readings should be around 180 deg. if it reads around 180, your temp gauge is not good.

I know this sounds simple, but is the radiator low on coolant? Low fluid can cause spikes in the temperature.

Its more likely you need to replace the $5.00 thermostat.
