Mine was stuck, too, when I was tearing down the motor a couple of weeks ago. The book(s) are fairly unhelpful, saying things like "The pulley should come off with no resistance", etc. I also did not want to buy a harmonic balancer puller (I'd just bought a set of micrometers and telescope gauges, so the tool budget for the month was gone). I sprayed the groove/seam between the crank and the pulley with liquid wrench until it was dripping on the floor, let it go for 30 minutes, sprayed it down again, wait another 30 mins, etc. for an afternoon (while I was working on other parts of the car). Then, grabbing each side of the pulley (wear heavy gloves, sometimes the edges are sharp), I "wiggled" it off by tillting the top towards me, then the bottom, side to side, etc. all while pulling forward. It was a little easier for me because the motor was on a stand, so the pulley was right at waist-height. It took a lot of patience and a lot of liquid wrench (glad they make oversize cans of that stuff), but it did work.

Given you don't care about the old one at all (it's split anyway, right?), you *might* be able to use a piece of wood and a mallet/hammer to help jar it loose, but you have to be extremely careful doing that. Whatever you do, do *NOT* pry against the front cover in any manner whatsoever. It's easy to damage, and extremely expensive to replace.
good luck,
Dave

If it split it may have started to shear the key. You might also try hitting on one of the bolts with the wood/mallet in the counter clockwise direction to loosen the bite on the key. There might be some build up of **** on the end of the crank so try to wire brusk that off too. Good luck.
