Did 280ZXT 2+2 have the B&W 5 Speed?

Would a 1983 280ZX Turbo 2+2 have the Borg and Warner 5 Speed? And what would the gearing on the differential be? I have the opportunity to pick up the 83 ZXT for a swap into my 1971 240Z (built 12/70). The 240 already has a 5 speed that was swapped into it, but I hear the B+W is bulletproof, altho I understand I'd need to do some modifications to the driveline. The turbo on the L28 is gone, literally, so I think my best bet there would be to remove the FI, get some flat top pistons and put on my early SUs. Am I on the right track?

For all that work you won't gain much more than 400cc's. You might as well start with a L28 FI engine. The turbo block is bullet proof too. If I had the same deal I would build the turbo engine. Way more HP and in the lighter '70 car would be awesome.
The T-5 trans is very obvious, the stick is thicker and straight. For a picture, go to zhome.com. The rear end ratio can be determined by the color of the speedometer gear, also on zhome.com.

The 82 280zx turbo 2+2 should have the same drivetrain as the 2-seater turbo. It should have a BW 5-speed and 3.54 R200 rear.

Replacing the turbo unit would be easier than trying to find a non-turbo wiring harness, ECU, AFM, distributor and fuel injectors and then replacing pistons. Plus with a turbo you will have a lot more power. A LOT more! Even at stock boost. The torque levels are much higher too.

Or, since you are in Washington, just let me have the turbo Z and I'll know what to do with it!

Talking

I am tempted to keep the engine as a turbo, but 1) how hard is it to change my 71 Z to accept the wiring from the newer car? -- I guess most of my gauges could be wired up ok, but what about things like headlights, tailights, fan motors, etc. 2) How much does a stock (or upgraded) turbo unit cost? The previous owner was thinking something like $400, one reason he sold the car so cheap.

In my previous post I wasn't talking about keeping the fuel injection, just using the block and tranny and mounting my early SUs. I know a little about carbs, but next to nothing about fuel injection, except it seems to work well in my '92 Chevy K1500 Pickup.

Frankly the whole Turbo thing has me lost in the woods. Would love the extra power -- Ya, Power Good, better fuel economy good. Is the best place to look for this kind of conversion here and/or HybridZ? Are there written step-by-step instructions available somewhere? I see an interesting post on
http://zhome.com/rnt/L28TurboConversion/Genavese.htm

Bleach, I'll trade you the turbo motor as is for a decent L28 F54 with flat top pistons already installed. How are things on the wet (west) side of the state?

Thanks for all the help. Gary
