converting to z31 wiring harness

so instead of buying a painless kit or spending $700 in upgraded harness kits on MSA i was considering the thought of using an entire early z31 harness, since the car has already got an 85T EFI swap done i was thinking that this would be kinda easy and a hell of a lot more stable then adding a new harness to ancient harness, but anyone done this before? i figured it wouldnt be too hard to do, just time consuming, anyone got any ideas other then studying the factory wiring diagrams?

i dont think that will work to well... i would work with what you have instead of swapping an entire harness into it. i dont even know if that would work you got alot of clashing instruments and lights and stuff its alot more wiring just to make a 24 year old harness work with it. stick with what its got or go painless cause your going to go through the same hassle just to use a harness thats old still. also what you said is a bit vague. so right now its the stock 240z engine and body harness im guessing with a ZXT efi harness added to it and the 85T computer maf and cas mod right? and what you want to do is replace the WHOLE ENTIRE HARNESS IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE CAR with a Z31 harness? thats what your wording and my knowledge of the car so far implies and if so, huge waste of time. otherwise if im wrong i think you need to word what your trying to say a little differently.

it has an entire z31 EFI harness, now what i wanted to do was put relays on the headlights, tail lights and accessories, but with a conversion i would cut out all of the ecu lights, use an aftermarket speedo, tach...etc the reason i wanted to go with a z31 setup is because they use relays for just about every circuit. and it makes adding different things like stereo's and random accessories easier.

thats what i thought, yeah all in all, its REALLY going to be about the same work as a painless except its already in a loom. my 2 cents, stick with what its got or go painless

i still might do it, but i have another Q since i already have this thread open, what exactly would be the outcome if you bored the l28et out to 3L without using a the LD28 crank?

i dont really think anything would be the outcome other than money spent for the slightest displacement increase the a HUGE bore on your cylinder walls mixed with boost. the LD crank and the 240z rods give that extra stroke for the big gain but even then, i wouldnt mix with boost, thats the die hard NA route. history has shown that a stroked motor on BOOST (thats the key word boost and as far as my import motor research has gone so neglect domestic engines) will produce the same if not less HP come to the end of things as the stock displacement motor and is usually a bit slower revving and wont rev as high (though with these old motors high RPM isnt really common nor sought after) it will however usually produce better TQ and low end numbers will rise and a bit of turbo lag might get shaved off. all in all... MEH! but now thats talking stroked, in just tossing in the larger pistons, your just weakening the walls for minimal gain.

i dont see why you couldnt use the z31 harness. if you can get one cheap or free, why not try it and see. pretty much every car ever made has the same basic stuff in it. you may need to really look how to wire the ig switch, and heater switch, other than that, just hook everything up. try and get things like the brake switch and things that plug in. that way it looks factory. heck its really only time.

I think it's a great idea. You will have to change some of the bulb plugs to fit your dash and tailights etc. I used a fuse box from a 200sx ($5) in my 240 and the color codes were the same. I just had to splice on the plugs. You might want to download a wiring diagram for both cars to help plan it out. Keep us posted!
