Greetings all!
Hello! First of all I'd like to go ahead and admit that I am new to the forum, though I did take a look around the past 2 days to get aquainted with the community through observation.
On to the dirty: I am currently an owner of a 2003 Audi TT Quattro, and I just purchased the chassis for a '72 240Z, a car that I have wanted to get for about 10 years now. I saw a few in car shows growing up, and I've completely fallen in love with them. This also probably shows my age (23), but I would like to do something nice with the car, not build it for the distinct reason of possibly wrapping it around a tree (I've seen it too many times to be interested).
What I am going to be doing over the course of the next ~5 years (newly wed... the wife gives me an allowance to do this) is rebuild this neglected 240Z to a fun car for weekends, car shows, and general sunday drives.
I'm shooting for about 300-350 HP, using a 2JZ-GTE or 1JZ-GTE (not sure which would be easier? the 2's seem to be fairly difficult to find in manual) with a 5-speed W58 tranny. I've done a little bit of research and I'm thinking I need to up the rear end to a R200. I've seen some guides on this so I take it that it's been done fairly often before.
What I'm really thinking is if anyone has done a setup like this before, I'd greatly appreciate any help what-so-ever, I'd hate to redo mistakes from the past. I'm going to do as much research as I can as well, but the first goal is to detatch everything and sandblast and powdercoat the Frame. Will this need to be supported to handle the HP change? I havent read anything about that.
I appreciate everyones help, and when it starts to go underway, I will more than happily post images of it from start to finish.
Thank you for your time!
Tom
