Cheap lowering

Here is how to lower your S30 Z 1". I had heard about this before and wanted to try it for my self. The Tokico springs and shocks just didn't get the car where I wanted it and it was slightly higher in front. They say the VW Rabbit shocks are shorter but I couldn't find a sample in the junk yard. I had a '84 300zx front strut and I noticed it looked shorter. Sure enough it is 1" shorter so I got some new KYB shocks on ebay for $88. I cut off the end piece for a full 1" shorter.
I made some sleeves at work with a 2.005 bore for a close fit over the strut tube.
I sectioned a little over 1" from the strut.
Then I welded the sleeve to the top portion of the strut. Then I slipped it on the strut.
I put the new KYB shock in the tube and tightened the glan nut all the way and backed off one turn.
Didn't notice that the threads on the shock are 14mm and the isolators are 12mm so I had to enlarge the "D" shaped hole.
Finished the welds.
The rear towers use the same front S30 shock but with spacers which can be easily cut.

I put the Z down on the ground and didn't think it was quite low enough. I remembered back to when I got the Tokicos and realized they were for a 280z. Doh! I got some Vogtlands on ebay and sure enough they lowered it another 1 1/4 inches! I haven't test driven it yet but I now have about 3" of ground clearance. I also noticed that these load the suspension a little unlike the shorter Tokicos which "Bang" when you go over a large bump.
