i never liked the idea of a V8 swap because of all the weight you need to add to the car stiffening up the chassis... but then if you do a *****-to-the-wall turbocharged IL6, wouldnt you have the same needs for chassis mods as a v8 with comparable HP/torque ratings?

this always kinda confused me.. its seemed liked my elders were trying to have it both ways on me.. "if you put a V8 into it, you need to weld 400 lbs of steel to the frame rails. just turbocharge it"

regardless, i dont want NO MORE weight on my car. i want my dads fiberglass one piece front end so i can lose a few hundred pounds..

stock ls1 makes a healthy 345hp at the crank and weighs 100 lbs less than the stock inline six.

Actually the weight distrabution is better with the V8's in them. Both the Ford and Chevy are lighter than the inline 6. The Ford with cast iron heads are 30#s lighter. If you put aluminum heads on the Chevy and other aluminum stuff, you again are lighter than the inline 6. With the engines setting low and back, weight distrabution is almost 50-50. They corner like a mother.

I cannot confirm this, but I've heard from more than one person that a deal with GM was being made for nissan to use the 283 when the Z cars were going to be made. Who knows? They sure fit good, almost like the engine bay was designed for them.

No matter what if your adding a lot of HP you should make sure the chassis can hold it. Whether it be a 6 or an 8..

Making the car light only goes as far and you have to way in the benifits vrs the minus on going that route.
