280zx Short shifter +

Looking for a Short throw shifter that will work on my 81 280zx, used or new it doesn't matter. Just email me and let me know how much you want for it. Thanks. Steve Stevebmx12@hotmail.com

Also does anyone have any info about converting your z to t-tops or have any of you done this?

Alternative Suggestion

I took my stock shifter to a machine shop and had about 2" removed from the middle of the shaft and the shaft welded back together.

It cost $25 and was barely noticeable after buffing.

Just a thought.

if you would have had 2 inches removed from the LOWER portion and then welded
you probably would not have noticed anything after the weld.

the shifter boot should have covered the weld joint in any case

I made special tooling to cut 2" off the threaded end and re-thread it. Also made new bushings out of polyurethane. No welding, no scratches. Made a few extras.

Are you looking for a short shifter or a short throw shifter? Very different. The short throw shifter is longer below the pivet point. I have not seen one for the ZX 5 speeds.

One could still modify the stock shift lever to be a true "short shifter" Just cut a section from above the pivot, weld that, and then cut and tack that on to the bottom. You might be able to get away with not having to extend up the pin hole on the trans itself too.

Hey Tom. The rack you sold me went in and works great. The car is running very well now. I found a shop who will completely strip and repaint the car for $2,000 thats including fabricating any new metal where it might be rotted? The catch is I have to remove most of the outside parts. Does that price sound reasonable? I think "British Racing Green" again; I saw a nice color on the new Jaguars(non metallic). Any way how much are you asking for the "Short Shifters"? mine works but I would think the bushings are worn. (loose/long throws) My 71 240 has a 5-speed don't know which year? Thanks again, Kurt.
